The Italian Wine Masters 2010 |
|
The best-known Italian wines are the ones driving the export market. By
themselves the three great Tuscan DOCG wines, Brunello di Montalcino,
Chianti Classico and Nobile di Montepulciano, along with Conegliano
Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore have export revenue of approximately
430 million euro, 145 million coming just from the U.S. market.
In 2009 the greatest number of bottles bought and drunk on the various
continents were Italian, thanks to the fact that Italian wine
production has now surpassed that of its traditional competitor,
France. In 2008, in fact, Italian wine exports raked in 3.5 billion
euro, due mainly to demand in the United States and Germany (source:
Coldiretti).

This year, DWWA hosted as many as 10,285 wines and 2,240 wine-making concerns – more than twice the number of wines hosted during the first edition, six years ago!
